Afterschool and Summer Clubs
“This program is absolutely amazing. We are new to town and he comes home very single time so excited and more talkative than usual to share all about his adventures.”
“I am so grateful for Megan all she is teaching our kids. They have gained confidence and skills in so many areas of her life.”
“Thank you Megan for all you do and showing the girls to stand up for themselves and be such a great example in their lives.”
“He started taking a different way between 2 places and I was wondering why, but then I got it that it was the club and the wayfinding he’s learning. He is more confident now.”
This club is equal parts choose-your-own-adventure, walking and biking safety lessons, wayfinding and neighborhood mental mapping and having fun!
Who: 5th - 8th graders
When: Mondays, September - December. See dates below. Calendar invites will be sent upon registering.
Where: meet in Hood River Middle School library, explore around campus and within 2 miles of school by foot or bike
Cost: FREE, $70 suggested donation to cover snacks
Bikes/helmets: provided or bring your own
Weather: our plans will be flexible based on Mother Nature, but generally we will adopt the "no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing" attitude. When it's wet and cold, it's really important that the students have a rain jacket, base layer and water resistant footwear.
Transportation: there is a free bus to bring your child home anywhere in the district at 5:20pm from the Hood River Middle School
Choose-Your-Own-Adventure
Students will have fun taking walks (skateboarding optional) or bike rides to their favorite places around Hood River with a musical soundtrack of their own choosing. They will help plan the route, ride or walk to the destination and receive a treat or gift card from local businesses they visit. Along the way, we will learn the laws and etiquette for walking and biking and how to navigate or avoid tricky intersections. They will also learn to have a sense of direction and the safest routes for getting around town. We will map out their home, the school, friend’s houses and major landmarks.
